(Mental Health) Online Screening Tools?

Posted on May 8th, 2009 in Ask Dr. Blue Jay

Q. Before I visit the Counseling Center, I want to make sure that the symptoms of anxiety I’m experiencing are truly something I should be concerned about - would you happen to have an online screening tool that you could recommend? Also, will the Counseling Center recieve a copy of my screening results?

A. The Counseling Center offers a free online Screening site for mood and anxiety disorders. This free screening is made available to all students and is anonymous. The screening is provided so that you may find out - in a few minutes - whether or not professional consultation would be helpful to you. Any information you submit during the online screening will not be personally identifiable  and the Counseling Center does do not collect any unique identifying information such as name, email address or IP address.

At the end of each anonymous screening you will receive an immediate result that can be printed and taken to a clinician for further evaluation. A screening test is not a substitute for a complete evaluation but it can help you learn if your symptoms are consistent with depression, bipolar disorder, an anxiety disorder or post-traumatic stress disorder and how to access help.

To participate in the online screening, please visit the Counseling Center web page, and click on the  ”Online Depression Screening” tab.

Furthermore, the ULifeline web site also offers a confidential “Self-eValutator,” which provides a valuable and objective perspective if or when you (or a friend) are struggling with troubling thoughts and feelings

After you have completed your screening(s), if you would like to discuss your results with a medical professional, we encourage you to contact the Counseling Center to speak with a medical professional, (410) 516-8278 during 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
